Who this covers
This page covers NOVA Ink, a browser extension operated by NOVA ENTERPRISE LIMITED, trading as NOVA. Your Mini NOVA account is covered by the NOVA Privacy Policy.
Private by design
Spelling, the natural check, tone and Sheets formula checks run on your device. Text is sent only to give you a result you asked for, or the sentence you are typing while fix as you type is on.
What NOVA Ink sends, and when
NOVA Ink sends text only to give you a result. It sends:
- while fix as you type is on, the sentence you are typing, after you pause. Spelling is checked on your device and is never sent. Fix as you type is on by default, and you can turn it off anytime from the NOVA Ink icon in your toolbar;
- the text you highlight when you choose Rewrite, Summarize, Translate or Ask;
- the text you select or paste in the side panel;
- when you tap Draft reply in Gmail, the last 3 messages in the thread, with quoted history removed and email addresses masked, plus your About you line if you set one;
- when you tap Find sources, a few search terms picked on your device from the text you highlighted. These go straight from your browser to Crossref and OpenAlex, two public research databases, to find published papers. Your text is not sent to them and is not sent to NOVA.
In Google Docs, nothing leaves your device until you accept a fix or pick an action. Only the site's hostname is sent with a request, never the full web address or a document ID.
Where NOVA Ink stays off
It is always off on banking, checkout, tax, health, and sign-in sites and on payment forms. On other pages that look sensitive, it stays silent until you turn it on there yourself. It never reads passwords or payment fields, it stays off in password, card and ID fields, and you can turn it off on any site.
What happens to the text you send
Text is processed briefly in memory to give you fixes. Our servers don't store the text you send. It is passed to our AI provider only to generate your result, and it is never used to train AI models.
What stays on your device
Nothing is stored on the pages you visit. Your settings, sign-in session, personal dictionary, paused sites, Writing for choice and About you line are saved on your device. The natural check, tone, clarity hints and Sheets formula checks run on your device. Hidden hints are saved as short hashes, never as your text, and expire after 30 days. If you remove NOVA Ink, a short survey page opens; it receives only the NOVA Ink version number.
Permissions
- storage: saves your settings, sign-in session, personal dictionary, paused sites and hashed hint keys on your device. Never page text.
- sidePanel: opens the NOVA Ink panel next to the page you're on.
- scripting: after an install or update, re-adds NOVA Ink's own packaged scripts to open tabs so you don't have to refresh them.
- clipboardWrite: lets Copy buttons copy the text you asked for. NOVA Ink never reads your clipboard.
- identity: opens the NOVA sign-in page and receives a one-time code. No Google account data.
- Host access on all sites: shows help where you type. Off on sensitive sites and in password, card and ID fields, and you can turn it off per site.
Your account
Sign in with your Mini NOVA account. NOVA Ink uses that sign-in to link your account and plan.
How data is used
Data is used only to help you write and edit text on web pages: fixing spelling and grammar as you type, rewriting, summarizing and translating text you highlight, drafting email replies, and finding sources. It is not sold, not used for ads, and not used for creditworthiness. NOVA Ink never presses Send or submits a form for you.
