AI receptionist for electricians in NZ (2027)
Common calls, what to set up, safety calls and costs, for electrical businesses in New Zealand.
What callers ask a electrician
Most calls are one of a handful of questions. An AI receptionist handles these well because the answers come from facts you’ve written down once:
| The caller says | What Ora does |
|---|---|
| “Half my house has no power.” | Gives your safety message, takes the address and details, and creates a task for you to call back |
| “Can you put in a heat pump?” | Answers from your list of services and books a time to look |
| “I need an EV charger installed.” | Takes the car, the switchboard location and the address, and books a site visit |
| “Do you do commercial work?” | Answers from the work you’ve listed |
| “Is this a robot?” | Yes, and it says so, every time |
What to give it before the first call
- Your services: heat pumps, EV chargers, rewires, lighting, solar, switchboards, and what you don’t do.
- Your areas and hours.
- A safety message for dangerous calls, such as sparking, burning smells or wires down: tell the caller to keep clear and call 111 or their lines company.
- What to collect: address, what’s happening, photos of the switchboard if they can text them, and the best time to call back.
Ora only states facts you’ve approved. When a caller asks something that isn’t covered, it says it isn’t sure and takes the details for you, instead of guessing.
Booking the job
Ora checks your Google Calendar and books site visits into free times. For bigger jobs like rewires, set it to book a quote visit rather than the job itself. Every call ends with a transcript, a summary, a lead and a task.
Calls Ora should not handle alone
An AI receptionist shouldn’t diagnose an electrical fault over the phone. Give Ora a short safety script and let it take details; you make the call on what happens next. That keeps the advice with a licensed person, where it belongs.

Will customers mind?
Some will want a person, and that’s fine: Ora says it’s an AI on every call and takes a message for you. Most callers care more that someone picked up and their job got booked. Read why an AI caller should say it’s an AI, and compare Ora with voicemail or other AI receptionists in NZ.
