Best AI tools for NZ tradies in 2027

Which kinds of AI tool earn their keep on the tools, and which to skip.

The short answerFor most New Zealand tradies, the AI worth paying for in 2027 does three jobs: answers the phone while you’re working, drafts quotes and chases invoices for your approval, and keeps your marketing ticking over. A general chat assistant covers the odd question. Start with the job that loses you the most money.

1. Phone answering

You can’t answer when you’re up a ladder or under a house. An AI receptionist answers, says it’s an AI, takes the job details and books a time. Ora also sends every caller to you as a lead with a transcript. Guides by trade: plumbers, electricians, builders, mechanics.

2. Quotes, invoices and follow-ups

Most tradies lose evenings to paperwork. JENA has a trades team that drafts quotes with GST, sends overdue invoice reminders for your approval and follows up quotes that went quiet. Nothing is sent on your behalf until you approve it. How to write a quote in NZ and how to chase unpaid invoices.

3. Marketing that keeps going

Posting photos of finished jobs, answering reviews and keeping your Google profile current wins work, but it’s the first thing to slip. An AI Marketing Manager can draft the posts for you to approve each week.

4. A chat assistant for the odd question

For “how do I word this email” or “explain this clause”, a general chat assistant is fine. Don’t paste customer details into a free tool without checking where they go: is ChatGPT safe for business?

What to skip

  • Tools that send messages or post without asking you first.
  • Anything priced only in US dollars with no cap on usage.
  • AI that pretends to be a person on the phone.

Prices as at 3 November 2026; we’ll recheck them in January 2027. More in AI for tradies and service businesses.

Questions

What is the best AI for tradies in NZ?

It depends on the job: an AI receptionist such as Ora for calls, AI employees such as JENA for quotes, invoices and follow-ups, and a general chat assistant for one-off questions.

How much do AI tools cost a tradie?

Ora is from NZ$149 a month plus GST; JENA is from NZ$29 a month with GST included. Many chat assistants have a free plan.

Will AI send things without asking me?

JENA asks for approval before anything is sent on your behalf, and payments always wait for a person. Ora only uses facts you approve.
