What are missed calls costing your business?
A free calculator for New Zealand businesses. Three numbers from your own phone and your own jobs, and you’ll see the cost per week, month and year.
Missed calls could be costing you
NZ$5,200
a month, before GST
- Each week NZ$1,200
- Each year NZ$62,400
- Jobs missed a year 156
Ora Starter is NZ$149 a month plus GST for 100 call minutes. At NZ$400 a job, 1 booked job a month covers it.
How the sum works
The calculator multiplies the calls that would have booked by what a job is worth. That gives the cost of one week. A month is that times 52, divided by 12. A year is that times 52.
With the example figures, 3 of 10 missed calls would have booked a NZ$400 job each, so that’s NZ$1,200 a week. Your numbers will be different, so use your own.
Ways to miss fewer calls
- Look at when you miss them. If most missed calls come early, at lunch or after work, adjust your hours or who covers the phone.
- Call back within the hour. It costs nothing but time, and it saves some of the jobs a missed call would lose.
- Use an answering service. A person takes a message, usually charged per call or per minute.
- Use an AI receptionist. Ora answers every call in a New Zealand voice, says it’s an AI, answers from the facts you’ve approved and sends you the caller as a lead.

Questions
How do I find out how many calls I miss?
Your phone or phone system’s call log lists missed calls. Count a normal week, not a quiet one or your busiest one.
How many missed calls would have become a job?
Only you can say. Think about who usually rings: new customers asking for a quote or a booking, or people you already know. If you’re not sure, start low. The calculator is most useful with numbers you believe.
Does a missed call always mean a lost job?
No. Some people leave a message or ring back, and a quick call back saves some of them. The calculator counts only the calls you think would have booked, so leave out the ones you’d win back anyway.
Is this calculator free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no sign-up, and nothing you type is sent to us.
