How Find sources works

Highlight a sentence, open More, and tap Find sources. NOVA Ink searches Crossref and OpenAlex, two public research databases, and shows up to 3 published papers, each with a working DOI link. Every result is a real record, never a made-up reference. Copy the citation in APA 7, MLA 9 or Chicago 18.

  • Real papers only

Results come from published research records, so every source can be checked.

  • Three citation styles

APA 7, MLA 9 and Chicago 18 (author-date), formatted on your device.

  • Private by design

Only a few search terms, picked on your device, go from your browser to the research databases. Your text is not sent to them or to NOVA.

Cite a source in four steps

  1. Highlight the claim

Select the sentence you want a source for.

  2. Tap Find sources

Open More on NOVA Ink's bar and choose Find sources.

  3. Read the results

Open the paper that fits best and check it supports your point.

  4. Copy the citation

Pick APA, MLA or Chicago and copy or insert it.

Read before you cite

Find sources matches your words to published papers. A match is a place to start, not proof that the paper says what you need. Open it and read the relevant part before you cite it. If nothing fits, NOVA Ink offers a Google Scholar search with the same terms.

Which citation styles are there?

What is sent when I tap Find sources?

A few search terms picked on your device, sent straight from your browser to Crossref and OpenAlex. Your text is not sent to them or to NOVA.

No. Find sources helps you back up a claim. It doesn't check your text against other writing.

Does it find websites and books?

It searches research databases, so results are mostly journal articles and other published papers.
